The men's basketball team continues to add talent to their line up with the signing of three high level atheltes from the GTA.
Dorrel Atkinson, a 6'2 guard, comes to the Lancers from North York where he attended Emery Collegiate Institute for the majority of his high school career before transferring to and graduating from Thornlea Secondary Prep School.
Both schools have an impressive track record for turning out exceptionally talented athletes. Lancer Head Coach Patrick Kabeya is happy to be gaining a player of Atkinson's caliber and experience.
"Getting a player from those programs was an opportunity that we couldn't pass up. Dorrel brings much needed physicality to the wing. He's a strong ball handler, a good shooter and is tenacious on defense. He's going to fit into our program well and be a really great addition."
Atkinson looks forward to everything Loyalist has to offer him and his future goals. "Everyone I've talked to about Loyalist says the same thing - it's like a family and people are always willing to help. Going to college is the first step in a long journey to where I want to be."
Joining Atkinson is 6'7 Scarborough native, Tyrell Howell. A graduate of Sir Oliver Mowat Collegiate Institute, 22 year old Howell brings a sense of maturity and experience to the young & passionate Lancers. "It's a whole different level of intensity in the college league" says Howell. "I'm coming into the team to play to the best of my ability & be a good teammate." After lacking size in the last couple of seasons, Coach Kabeya is excited to have Howell on board. "Tyrell's an athletic big man. He rebounds the ball well and finishes above the rim. He's a solid guy who boosts our front court depth with his size and toughness."
With 5 recruits signed for the 2018-19 season, Coach Kabeya and his coaching staff are set to hold open try outs Tuesday September 4th and Thursday September 6th. Anyone interested is encouraged to contact the coaches ahead of time at firstname.lastname@example.org.
