The Loyalist Lancers basketball teams faced challenging matchups on the road in Ottawa this weekend.
The women's team kicked things off against the undefeated, top ranked Wolves. Veteran Lancer, Grace Callahan (Corbyville, ON) led the team with 13 points and 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Despite a strong effort, the Lancers fell 66-39 to the Wolves.
The men's team competed in two close battles, taking on both the Wolves and the La Cite Coyotes.
The team came up just short in a high-scoring 100-94 game against the Wolves Saturday afternoon. Third year Lancer, Nick Dales (Kingston, ON) turned in a career-high performance and lead his team with 24 points.
The team played their second tight game of the weekend on Sunday when they took on the Coyotes.
Second year Lancer Alex Arsenault (Picton, ON) contributed 18 points and 7 rebounds to the game while fellow veteran, Jayden Jack added 18 of his own. Matthew Iacono added 17 and accumlated 33 points on the weekend. Despite strong individual efforts, the Coyotes pulled out the win, downing the Lancers 86-82.
Both Lancer squads look to rebound when they return home on Friday, November 16th and host the St. Lawrence Surge.
