Lancers Overpower the Surge
The Loyalist Lancers men's basketball team cruised to a 95-73 win over the St. Lawrence Surge Friday night at home. The victory showcased the Lancers' offensive firepower and depth, moving them to 4-3 on the season.
The game began with a hard fought first quarter that saw the Lancers outscored the Surge 25-19. While St. Lawrence matched Loyalist's intensity in the second and third quarters, the Lancers unleashed a scoring frenzy in the fourth, pouring in 32 points to secure a comfortable 22-point margin for victory.
First year Lancer Matthew Iacono was nearly unstoppable, leading the game with 25 points on an efficient 10-of-14 shooting, including a perfect 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. He also added 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists in a well-rounded performance. Fellow first year Jevoni Torres dominated inside, recording 16 points and 7 rebounds while veteran teammate Nick Dales added 15 points.
The Lancers' reserves made major contributions in the game, adding a remarkable 40 points to the win.
Loyalist's high-energy play was evident in every facet of the game. They outscored the Surge 58-42 in the paint, dominated second-chance opportunities 19-0, and turned defense into offense with 15 steals and 31 points off turnovers.
The Lancers have two home games coming up in the next 7 days. The teams takes on the Fleming Phoenix at 6 PM on Wednesday November 20th and the Centennial Colts on Satuday, November 23rd at 3 PM.
