Lancers Win Second Straight in Home Opener Weekend
The Loyalist Lancers delivered a statement win on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Algonquin Wolves 101–72 in front of their home crowd. After a competitive opening quarter, Loyalist tightened the screws defensively and turned up the tempo to pull away for their second victory of the season.
The Lancers led 28–24 after the first frame but broke the game open with a dominant second quarter, outscoring Algonquin 22–10 to take a 16-point lead into halftime. From there, Loyalist's balanced attack and relentless pressure proved too much for the Wolves.
Veteran forward Jalen Carter-Julien paced the Lancers with 21 points and eight rebounds, showcasing his ability to finish inside and convert at the line (7-of-8 FT). Romain McCalla added 18 points, including three from behind the arc, while Jaden Excell chipped in 15 points and five steals to spark Loyalist's transition game.
Loyalist's bench once again played a major role, contributing 51 points and keeping the energy high throughout. The Lancers forced 28 turnovers, turning them into 32 points, and dominated the fast break with 28 points compared to Algonquin's six. Inside, Loyalist controlled the paint with 52 points, while holding the Wolves to just 36.2% shooting.
Algonquin's effort was led by Haven Holder and James Texeira, who scored 11 points each, and Aydin Gilani, who grabbed 10 rebounds. Despite a strong start, the Wolves couldn't overcome Loyalist's pace and depth.
With the win, Loyalist improves to 2–2 on the season and looks to keep building momentum.
