Lancers Battle to the End at OCAA Finals
The Loyalist Lancers men's basketball team capped off a breakthrough season on Saturday afternoon, competing in the OCAA Final Four bronze medal match against the host St. Clair Saints. Despite a determined offensive performance, the Lancers fell 119–92, bringing an end to a remarkable year that saw the program reach new heights.
This weekend marked Loyalist's first appearance at the OCAA Final Four in recent history, an achievement made even more impressive by the team's underdog journey. Entering the championship as the only East Division representative, the Lancers spent the season climbing the provincial rankings and proving they could stand toe‑to‑toe with the top programs in Ontario. Their fight, growth, and belief in one another became defining traits of a team that exceeded expectations every step of the way.
The Lancers came out strong offensively, posting 21 first‑quarter points and continuing to build momentum throughout the game, highlighted by a 29-point third quarter, their best frame of the afternoon. The Lancers demonstrated resilience and poise, refusing to back down against a St. Clair squad that shot an impressive 59.5% from the field. The Lancers spread their scoring across the roster:
- Jaden Excell, who was awarded Lancer Player of the Game, delivered an outstanding performance with 27 points, including six three‑pointers, giving the Lancers key momentum off the bench.
- Jalen Carter Julien added 12 points and 7 rebounds, battling inside and providing stability at both ends.
- Romain McCalla and Kobe Tablate contributed 9 points each, pushing the offense early and applying pressure from the perimeter.
- Andrew Plaschka filled the stat sheet once again with 4 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, showing strong two‑way effort.
While the bronze medal slipped out of reach, the significance of this season cannot be overstated. Their attendance in Windsor represents a turning point for the program. Loyalist College is immensely proud of the team's commitment, work ethic, and resilience. This Final Four appearance lays a powerful foundation for the future, proving that Loyalist basketball is on the rise and here to stay.
