Lancers Drop the Surge In Commanding Win
In a commanding display of teamwork and tenacity, the Loyalist Lancers soared to a decisive 71-46 victory over the St. Lawrence Surge on Friday night at home. The Lancers' balanced offense and stifling defense secured their fourth win of the season, improving to 4-2 in OCAA action.
The Lancers set the tone early, exploding for a 25-7 lead in the first quarter. Their relentless effort on both ends of the floor left the Surge scrambling for answers. Although St. Lawrence fought back in the second quarter, outscoring Loyalist 16-14, the home team's defense and transition game proved too strong, particularly in a dominant third quarter where the Lancers put up 22 points while holding the Surge to just eight.
First year Lancer Kayley Lemaire led the charge for Loyalist, recording a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, showcasing her dominance in the paint. Veteran teammate Grace Callahan followed closely with 19 points and 7 rebounds, contributing critical free throws and strong drives to the basket. First year Dana Zashi Ventenilla provided a spark off the bench, adding 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals while Brooklynn White provided strong defensive support with 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals to stifle the Surge's offense.
Loyalist's bench proved pivotal, contributing 23 points and maintaining the pressure throughout the game. The team capitalized on turnovers, converting 28 points off St. Lawrence's 33 miscues. They also dominated inside, outscoring the Surge 44-26 in the paint and pulling down 49 rebounds.
The Lancers look to build on their record when they face off against the Centennial Colts at home on Saturday, November 23 at 1 PM.
