Lancers Off to Perfect Start
The Loyalist Lancers women's basketball team continued their unbeaten start to the season with a convincing 71–51 victory over the Algonquin Wolves on Saturday afternoon. After trailing by three at the end of the first quarter, Loyalist flipped the script with a dominant second frame and never looked back.
The Wolves opened strong, taking a 20–17 lead after the first, but Loyalist responded with a 25-point second quarter to seize control. The Lancers' defensive intensity and rebounding presence set the tone, holding Algonquin to just 13.3% shooting in the fourth quarter and forcing 23 turnovers.
Forward Kayley Lemaire powered the Lancers with a double-double performance, scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Brooklynn White added 12 points and six assists, while Nina Anderson provided a spark off the bench with 11 points on efficient shooting (4-of-6). Sophie Vanni chipped in 10 points, and Loyalist's depth contributed 22 bench points.
Loyalist turned defense into offense, scoring 23 points off turnovers and pushing the pace for 18 fast-break points. The Lancers also controlled the paint, outscoring Algonquin 36–14 inside and winning the rebounding battle 45–42.
Algonquin's effort was led by Taryn Mitchell, who finished with 17 points and eight rebounds, but the Wolves struggled from the field, shooting just 25.8% overall and 25% from three.
The Lancers look to improve upon their 3-0 record when they travel to the Seneca Sting on Saturday, November 15th.
