Lancers Women’s Rugby Ready for Strong Finish Ahead of Provincials
The Loyalist Lancers women's rugby team is heading into the final stretch of the OCAA season with confidence, momentum, and plenty to be proud of.
Coming out of their first three tournaments, the Lancers hold a 6–5 record, sitting fourth overall in the league standings. Their consistent performances have kept them in the playoff mix all season long, and they'll look to solidify their position this weekend as they travel to Ottawa, ON for the final regular season tournament. There, the Lancers will face off against fellow East Division programs St. Lawrence, Algonquin, and Durham.
Head Coach Jo Anne Robinson says the group is ready to rise to the challenge.
"As we head into our final regular season tournament at Algonquin, the team is prepared and ready to compete," said Robinson. "We're looking for continued leadership from scoring leader and recent OCAA Athlete of the Week, Faith Ayres, as well as from co-captain Holly McMaster, who has contributed an impressive six tries this season."
Rookie props Rowynn Cochrane and Mayan Mackinnon have also been difference-makers in their first year, combining for five tries and bringing a blend of toughness, consistency, and on-field leadership to the lineup.
Beyond the scoreboard, this season has been defined by growth and connection. From demanding overnight tournaments and themed team dinners to fun off-field activities like laser tag, the Lancers have built a tight-knit culture rooted in resilience and team spirit.
"Our rookies and practice players have made significant strides in their understanding of 7s rugby since the beginning of the season," added Robinson. "With a few key players unavailable this weekend, we'll be relying on that depth and development to step up in big moments."
As the team gears up for the OCAA Rugby 7s Provincials hosted by Conestoga Condors in Kitchener on October 25th, the focus remains on competing hard, supporting one another, and continuing to build on the progress made throughout the year.
The Lancers wrap up their regular season this weekend in Ottawa, looking to carry their strong play — and team chemistry — into championship contention.
